Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnosis?

If you are familiar with the sense of being on “auto-pilot” sometimes, or wondering where your mind has been either when driving, reading a book or watching a film, then you are likely to have been in an altered state of awareness or trance state. This is very similar to the feeling of being hypnotised. It is a naturally occurring state which also happens between being fully awake and fully asleep.

In the therapeutic setting, hypnosis is usually accompanied by a pleasant state of physical relaxation which is, in itself, beneficial, especially for the symptoms induced or aggravated by stress.

It is very important to note that no one can be hypnotised against their will and no one can be forced or even persuaded to do anything that they do not want to do.

You will be aware of what is happening and be in control at all times.

What Is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is therapy that utilises hypnosis: as simple as that!
It is completely natural and safe with no harmful side-effects.
It is important, however, that a Hypnotherapist is properly trained, as I am, in therapeutic theory and methods, as well as being competent in hypnotherapeutic techniques.

Because there are so many different kinds of trainings for hypnotherapists, it can be hard to know who to choose to consult. I think it is important for you to know that I have a more general, thorough, counselling training in addition to my hypnotherapy training. I am a registered Hypnotherapist and a member of The National Society of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy and subject to their ethical code. I am also now registered with CNHC, the national regulatory body for Hypnotherapists. In addition, as a BACP accredited counsellor, I also abide by the BACP ethical framework.

What can Hypnotherapy be used for?
As stated above, hypnosis can be particularly effective with stress and anxiety as it is a relaxing experience in itself, but it has many other applications, including :

  • Smoking Cessation ( This generally only requires one or two sessions)
  • Changing unhelpful habits or eating patterns
  • Phobias and irrational fears
  • Performance Anxiety/ Public Speaking
  • Exam or Driving Test Nerves
  • Confidence building
  • Sports Performance( including Golf)

Because I am also a practicing and accredited counsellor, it is possible to use hypnosis to augment the counselling process too, so please look at the page on counselling for more information on any other issues not mentioned here.

I am very happy to work with individuals of all ages, including young people.
